Haven’t we all, at one time or another, wished we could fly over the rainbow? “Where skies are blue… and trouble melts like lemon drops…” How much more do you suppose children needing medical care would delight in imagining a beautiful land over the rainbow?
Well, when the owner of Over the Rainbow Pediatric Urgent Care had the vision of a land that children would love to see, and connected with BCAG muralist, Aniko Doman, the dream came true. According to Aniko, “The concept for the mural, came from the art-loving facility owner. She wanted it created in a whimsical, fun, playful, lighthearted folk-art style. She graciously allowed me full creative license in the design and execution. This mural took two months in the planning and another seven weeks to complete the painting. My son, Adam, has been a great contributor as my sidekick assistant. The mural is 13 feet high and 70+ feet long including all walls.” Other elements of the mural include two very large, solid wood, 3D signs with clinic logo – both were hand-made - one by BCAG artist, Lee Moses, and the other by Guild artist, Craig Corey.
The clinic, located at 10170 S. Eastern Avenue in Henderson, plans to open this August. An artist reception is planned for prior to opening. “The entire facility inside is gorgeous, with wall paper murals and designer decor in the examining rooms. It will be a 24-hour urgent care clinic with amazing doctors and nurses. They will also offer wellness care for children and teens.”
So, while the children are awaiting treatment, they can let their imaginations explore the folk tale world on the mural walls created by artist Aniko Doman, and perhaps they will be inspired to create their own art. Boulder City Art Guild artists continue to offer their time and talents to bring color and imagination into the lives of others, not just “over the rainbow,” but here on planet earth – because ART MATTERS!
